2004-12-30 Dog Cave Cave in Straszykowa Mtn.
People: M&M Trybulec, A Durzynski
Place: Jura, Bisnik and Straszykowa Mountain
The imperative: get to some hole till the end of this year.
The plan: a week in the Tatras.
The execution: a one day trip to the Jura (but we will go into the Tatras in the beginning of 2005!).

Trips: Details:

Jaskinia Psia (Dog Cave)

Dog Cave is not that interesting: a nicely washed main passage, some formations at the end, something squeeze-like in the middle; otherwise a bit short and without many attractions. What's worse, my camera's lens got totally covered with mist, so that most of the pictures are a bit, err... cloudy. The weather, too, was not encouraging - instead of a beautiful white winter, this gray sh...ty something...

On the other hand, because of the totally idiotic map (made by Eko-Graf) we searched for the cave a while, even though it's quite close to the path...

See also the cave's description on Epimenides (in Polish).

[MJT] A small cave, but a nicely washed passage

[MJT] That's what happens to people who had a 2 month break in caving

[MJT] A dry puddle there

[MJT] Andrzej pushed his first squeeze(?)

Jaskinia w Straszykowej Gorze (Cave in Straszykowa Mountain)

However, our hardship was rewarded by the second cave - In Straszykowa Mountain. To tell the truth, the drive up a sandy forest road didn't go as expected, but we found the cave without any problems; and that was fortunate, since we found it just before sunset.

A very nice and pretty cave. The initial parts can be visited without a flashlight (you can even do a small traverse), but not very interesting. After squeezing through several tighter places it starts to get prettier; the main passage changes its character several times. In the chamber at the end there are some nice formations and an interesting meander. However, the most interesting parts are reached by a climb through the chimney there. The climb itself through two tighter and uncomfortable places is really satisfying. And the chamber at the top has several quite big and quite nice formations. You can even go further up, but we didn't want to step on anything, so we resigned.

See also the cave's description on Epimenides (in Polish).

[MJT] Just before sunset we got to the second cave

[AD] It was already dark outside the window...

[AD] In the terminating chamber

[AD] An interesting roof about in the middle of the main passage

[MJT] A very nice passage on the way; many shells visible in the walls

[MJT] And one more version of the changing passage

[MUT] Getting up at 5 a.m. has its downsides...

[MJT] Andrzej in another squeeze - maybe he'll even get to like them!
