Jaskinia Kasprowa Niznia (Lower Kasprowa Cave) - Gabka (the Sponge), Syfon Dankana (Dankan's Sump) (2005-02-26)

On our next trip to Lower Kasprowa Cave we wanted to accomplish to things: circumvent the Great Pitch and Gold Duck's Nest through the Sponge and have a swim in Dankan's Sump. Both goals were met, but taking water out of a lake in the Sponge took us more than 2 hours, and the pontoon barely fit in the sump... :) But it was a lot of fun, again the trip through the Sponge was great, parts before Dankan's Sump really nice - a bit like a Big Sponge. Swimming in the pontoon was really extreme, since it turned out that it was punctured...

Jaskinia Zimna (Cold Cave) - rigging from the lower entrance to the Barrel (2005-02-28)

The plans for Cold Cave were a bit more ambitious than we managed to accomplish, but I climbed the Brown Pitch and almost the whole Black Chimney (with some azeroing, but it went better than I thought anyhow). After rigging to the top we wanted to visit Zwolinskis' Sump and/or Winding/Sand Corridor, but we went out of time and will.

Two conclusions from this trip:
  • in the Tatras its hard to combine photo trips with sporting trips, so you should choose one or the other,
  • the name "Cold" Cave is not totally adequate; the climate should suggest names more like "F...ing Cold" Cave or similar - this is because of the very strong wind that blows through most of the cave, from the entrance up to the Barrel (in the Great Rift and in the Matches it was damn strong; I guess one of the reasons was the low temperature outside - some -15 degrees).
Anyway, we left our ropes for the trip next day.

Jaskinia Zimna - to the Hut (2005-03-01)

Since we left our ropes rigged in the F...ing Cold Cave, we quickly went up to the Barrel. Aro was the first one through it (an additional bolt helped much here), next the White Pitch and then the Hut. Here we had a small party celebrating Aro's n-th birthday.

We wanted to go down into the Great Chimney, but because Cold Cave got a bit boring for us, after the party we went back home (de-rigging everything).

Jaskinia Kasprowa Niznia - Sala Gwiazdzista (Stellar Chamber) (2005-03-03)

The goal - Star Chamber, maybe a bit farther - was reached. The water level in the Hanging Lake was pretty low and navigation by the map from the inventory went along quite nicely (but the labyrinth's a bit boggling). We had one small problem after negotiating the Matches, where we didn't know whether to go down the pitch (into a lake), or do a traverse to a small window on the other side. Since we didn't know how the small chimney from the window ended at the bottom, we decided to abseil into the lake. If not for a pole in the lake, it wouldn't be that easy to get to dry land without getting wet...

Another conclusion from this trip: for caves so wet as this one, it's better to take an impremeable suit...
