  • Grilled Halloumi Cheese with Eggpant and Tomato
    Great vegetarian dish, especially popular during grill parties. You can prepare it on a pan, so it's all-year-rounder. And pretty simple to do.
    Halloumi is a firm, chewy, salty cheese made with goats (sometimes with addition of sheep) milk and is traditional to Cyprus. And eggplant in the UK is called aubergine.


  • Tortilla Wraps
    An interesting appetizer; but in it's larger and richer version can also be served as a main dish. You can use almost anything here - below, I have 3 suggestions for the filling.

  • Low-salt Pickles
    Delicious pickled (but only for a short while) cucumbers, ideal for sandwiches, meats, salads.
    A must have at the beginning of summer when we can find lots of small cucumbers.
    Easy to make, but so tasty...

    A very easy hors d'oeuvre, served hot. Effortless and straightforward to make. I have served it for many years, but I still meet people that never heard about it. :)

  • Bacon Fat
    An unusual snack that goes really well with vodka; its origins fade in history when bacon fat was still bacon fat. But, when we recently visited Latvia, from the nearby Galadus lake, we managed to buy some super bacon fat. A perfect follow up to clear, cooled vodka!

  • Cheese Roll
    A nice looking starter, delicious at the same time. All kinds of variations are allowed. For instance, instead of ham you can add mushrooms or pepper, green parsley, herbs - anything.
