Orange Vodka Scented with Coffee |
|
Amazingly delicious!
Success here is based on two main factors: a large jar with a wide lid and... patience. :)
I've heard about a lemon version as well. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds very interesting!
- 1 orange
- handful of whole coffee beans (ca. 40 beans)
- 25 ml high proof spirit
- sugar
- Blanch the orange and press whole coffee beans into the orange's skin (similar to decorative oranges with cloves pressed into skins).
- Put the whole orange into a jar - which should be wide enough to fit the whole fruit, but not too large (so that we don't waste too much alcohol).
- Dilute the alcohol 1:1 with water with sugar (about 40g of sugar to 0,25l of alcohol).
The fruit should be completely covered with liquid.
- Put aside for 3 weeks...
- Pour out the liquid.
NOTE: do not squeeze the fruit out (unfortunately, you need to throw it out), as the vodka would become too bitter.
- And the whole idea now relies on patience! One needs to wait for the vodka to mature.
I had the opportunity to taste a 3 year old one - spectacular!
