The second diving trip to West Bay, again with the club from Newbury (
Newbury Sub-Aqua Club).
The plan called for two dives: the first one - on the Baygitano wreck, and the second one - somewhere nearby.
I never actually found out where the second dive was supposed to be because...
Well, we went out in two dive boats out of West Bay.
Everything was going fine, we just had a little bit of trouble finding the wreck -
at one point, even, the coxswain turned the boat around and started heading back towards West Bay
(and didn't notice the change of direction)... ;-)
But then, the second boat arrived and they found the wreck almost instantaneously (lucky farts!).
We (me and Marta) were going to be diving in wetsuits.
Since it wasn't that warm outside (it was April after all),
it was decided that we would be the last pair to go down to the wreck.
After a while, just before the first pair was supposed to come up, we suited up, and were almost in the water when...
the engine on the second boat broke down. :-(
So, instead of a dive, we picked up all the divers after their dives, tied the broken boat to ours,
and started hauling it back to the port. And the going was quite slow...
After we got back, the group decided to cancel the second dive
(it was getting late, it would take too long to go out again, and we had to take care of the second boat).
But, lucky for us, David decided to take us out to High Ground Reef (only a couple of minutes from the port);
not the most ambitious of dives (down to 10 meters), but at least we got into the water.
And we got to see our first lesser spotted dogfish (or small-spotted catshark;
dogfish? catshark? - somebody had trouble deciding what it was... ;-)
So, all in all, it wasn't a bad day; we didn't lose too much (we visited Baygitano last year),
had a small adventure, and saw some new stuff under water.
