Avebury 2010
Avebury is about 20-25 miles West of Newbury (along the A4). It's full of interesting sites, such as the Long Barrow, Silbury Hill, Avebury itself with it's stone circle(s), Windmill Hill, and West Kennett Avenue.

What we liked most about the area is that there are no fences (as Stonehenge is...) and you can just touch those prehistoric stones, enter the Long Barrow, walk along the stone avenue, and just enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Avebury!

It's a great place for a one-day visit, though to visit Windmill Hill you'll need a SUV; however, it's the least interesting place in the area, so you won't miss that much if you don't see it...

And the pub in Avebury ain't half bad! :-)
