Below you will find links to articles and texts about various stuff
dealing with market research, data acquisition and analysis.
Market Research in Poland - 2009
Summary of turnovers of market research companies in Poland in the years 1996-2009
based on the newest data published by OFBOR.
Nested randomized blocks
In version 2.10 of YAC Interview Kit
we introduced blocks to group other blocks, pages, and questions.
What's more, the order of elements in a block may be randomized.
In this text we discuss this feature in greater details,
especially on nesting blocks (with randomization).
Names of variables in continuous surveys
The management of data from continuous studies is not easy.
In this text we show a method of assigning names (identifiers) to variables,
so that typical data processing and analysis operations on multi-wave surveys is a bit easier.
This method also safeguards against certain types of errors.
Example of quota checking
A bit more complex example of quota control
in our YAC Interview Kit software.
Quotas in YAC Interview Kit
YAC Interview Kit has mechanisms
for controlling quotas during a survey.
In this text we go into more detail about the constructs implemented in YIK's scripting language
and how these map to client's requirements and the questions in the questionnaire.
Handling missing data in filter expressions
Handling of missing data in filtering expressions is discussed in this text -
filter expression such as may be found in questionnaire scripts or data analysis programs (for instance - target group definitions).
The solution is based on 3-valued logic with the values of TRUE, FALSE, and MISSING (DATA).
SPSS Syntax Tips
Several short tips on using the SPSS command language - SPSS Syntax.
These tips are based on the most frequent phrases found in search logs leading to these pages:
- Recode values by cases instead of by variables.
- Recode multi-value variables into dichotomous variables.
- Automatically execute data processing instructions.
- Change the order of variables in a data file.
- Automatically save you data after execution of data processing instructions.
Pretty simple stuff, but helps a lot when working with SPSS. :-)
noback vs. noret
A short post on two possible instructions that block respondents
from going back to previous questions in computer aided interviewing systems,
and especially in system where respondents fill out the questionnaires themselves (be it CASI or CAWI).
Market Research in Poland - 2008
Summary of turnovers of market research companies in Poland in the years 1996-2008
based on the newest data published by OFBOR.
Searching for Values in 2D Tables
A quick hint on how to search for data in Excel in two-dimensional tables (cross-tabulations).
Effective Reach and Optimization
This article discusses some nuances of press media plan optimization
where the possible solutions are limited by criteria defined for Effective Reach
or for the CPP (Cost per Point) and CPT (Cost per Thousand) indicators
in their versions based on Effective Reach.
Referencing Cells in Excel
Two exercises that should help Excel users (and users of other spreadsheets) refer to other cells in formulae.
Relative and absolute references are discussed using two examples:
calculating percents given counts, and calculating the multiplication table.
Open All and Merge
An Excel macro that shows how multiple sheets,
saved in different files, may be moved into a single common workbook.
