Up till now I never used much my own
YAC Data Kit software.
Several large surveys, including PGSS (Polish General Social Survey), PBC (Polish Readership Survey),
and the main radio audience survey (Radio-Track)... several demonstration surveys... and that's probably it
(and it is some time since I worked on the large surveys mentioned above).
Obviously, when developing software, you use it everyday,
but it's a totally different thing to use an application as an ordinary user.
And since I recently read the
UsWare vs. ThemWare article
(on the always phenomenal Jeff Atwood's Coding Horror blog),
I decided to listen to it and spend some time on working with my programs. :)
So, I started looking for a generally available, but big, data set.
Finally, I chose the General Social Survey
conducted by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago.
On these pages I will be describing how work on this data using YAC Data Kit goes.
Also, I will be describing which functions (and how) were inspired by this experiment.
