The initial importing of the full data file from the General Social Survey project into YAC Data Analyzer
went through without significant problems. I just had to select the variable that defined the year of the survey,
not define anything more at that time and... voila!
Time of processing - around a minute,
data file size - 15 MB (compared to the SPSS data file size of 272 MB).
A bit more time was spent on preparing analytical weights.
No that it's hard, but you have to read through the survey's documentation
to find out, which variables can be used for data weighting and what these weights are all about.
Weight descriptions were added to the survey's documentation and are available in YAC Data Analyzer.
Finally, the hardest part of the work - creating the same module structure
as the one used on the project's pages - SDA.
Unfortunately, mainly manual labor, so several days were spent on this...
As the result, we got the final data file that includes:
- 51020 cases
- 26 waves (years)
- 891 modules
- 5086 questions (variables)
- 40189 responses in questions
